Living with heroin addiction (opioid use disorder) can make it difficult to manage cravings, regulate mood and emotions, maintain focus, sustain relationships, and stay in control of daily responsibilities. At Pillars Health Group, we provide compassionate, evidence-based treatment for heroin addiction that helps adults reduce or stop opioid use, manage withdrawal and cravings, and build healthier coping strategies. Whether you’ve recently recognized a problem or have been struggling for years, our experienced team is here to support you in working toward lasting recovery and improved daily functioning.

Treating Heroin Addiction in Tewksbury, Massachusetts

Heroin addiction (opioid use disorder) can develop quickly as opioid use becomes more frequent or difficult to control. Over time, the brain and body can become physically dependent on opioids, leading to strong cravings, tolerance, and withdrawal symptoms when not using. Common symptoms may include difficulty stopping or reducing use, continued opioid use despite negative consequences, sleep disruption, mood swings, anxiety or depression, and changes in behavior, energy, or motivation. These symptoms can interfere with work, relationships, physical health, and overall well-being.

At Pillars Health Group, we provide comprehensive outpatient treatment for adults experiencing heroin addiction. Our clinical team creates individualized treatment plans that combine evidence-based therapy, psychiatric care, medication management when appropriate, and practical recovery skills to help individuals reduce or stop opioid use and regain stability.

Our heroin addiction treatment program is designed for individuals who:

  • Struggle with compulsive or uncontrolled heroin or opioid use
  • Find it difficult to cut back or stop using despite wanting to
  • Experience cravings or withdrawal symptoms when not using
  • Use opioids to cope with stress, anxiety, depression, or trauma
  • Notice disruptions in sleep, mood, health, or daily functioning due to opioid use
  • Need more support than traditional weekly therapy provides
  • Are transitioning from a higher level of care or seeking structured outpatient treatment

Do You Need Treatment for Heroin Addiction?

Many individuals do not immediately recognize when opioid use has become a problem. Over time, however, heroin dependence can develop and begin affecting mental health, physical health, and daily functioning.

You may benefit from heroin addiction treatment if you experience:

  • Difficulty controlling or reducing opioid use
  • Using more or for longer than intended
  • Strong cravings or preoccupation with opioids
  • Withdrawal symptoms such as muscle aches, nausea, anxiety, sweating, or irritability
  • Sleep problems or fatigue
  • Mood changes, including depression or irritability
  • Decline in work, school, or relationship functioning
  • Continuing to use opioids despite negative consequences

If these symptoms are persistent and affecting your daily life, professional evaluation and treatment may be helpful.

Heroin addiction often co-occurs with anxiety, depression, PTSD, or other mood disorders. These conditions can intensify substance use patterns, which is why we provide integrated care that addresses both addiction and mental health simultaneously.

Symptoms We Treat in Heroin Addiction Recovery

Heroin addiction can affect individuals emotionally, physically, and behaviorally. Common symptoms include cravings, physical dependence, withdrawal symptoms, anxiety, irritability, sleep disruption, fatigue, mood instability, and difficulty functioning without opioids. Many individuals feel stuck in a cycle of using to avoid withdrawal or emotional distress while experiencing negative consequences that are difficult to manage alone.

How Our Heroin Addiction Program Works

Every individual’s experience with opioid use is unique, which is why treatment begins with a comprehensive clinical assessment.

During your assessment, our team will evaluate:

  • Your substance use history
  • Mental health history
  • Medical history
  • Current level of functioning
  • Co-occurring conditions such as anxiety, depression, or trauma-related disorders
  • Treatment goals

Based on your assessment, we’ll recommend the outpatient program that best fits your needs.

Some individuals benefit from our Full-Day Outpatient Treatment Program, while others are appropriate for our Half-Day Outpatient Treatment Program. Throughout care, your treatment plan is regularly reviewed and adjusted based on your progress.

Our Treatment Approach for Heroin Addiction

Our multidisciplinary team uses evidence-based approaches designed to help individuals stop or reduce opioid use, manage cravings, and build sustainable recovery skills.

I started at Pillar Health during a really difficult time in my life. From day one, the team treated me like a person, not a case number. The intake was thorough but never judgmental, and the group sessions actually gave me tools I could use right away. What stands out most is how the staff follows through and I can’t say enough about how caring they were about my situation. That kind of care is rare. If you’re struggling with mental health, substance abuse or just need someone in your corner, go to Pillar Health. They genuinely want you to get better.

Outstanding clinicians and phenomenal mental health care. I was hesitant to join but am beyond happy and eternally grateful for every group and one-on-one session I experienced. A very well rounded program that has created such a safe and comfortable space to build connections with others in recovery and to develop skills and healthy ways to navigate anxiety, stress, triggers, and unhealthy urges. I wish I could give more than 5 stars. A highly recommended program.

I am so glad to give Pillars Health in Tewksbury the best review. I came into the IOP hesitant, but hopeful . The staff were engaged and encouraging. I came out of that hesitancy with a positive mental and physical outlook. The Check in and Check out were expertly handled with both in-person and virtually, making time to make each voice heard with helpful suggestions on how to keep moving forward to a positive, and , educated perspective!

I joined this program at a point in my life where I felt everything was out of control, I had no future, I had recently been dealing with a divorce and the loss of the life I knew with the pet family we created. Having that torn down I knew I needed to take a step to take care of myself. This program has allowed me to become in touch with myself again. Learn to live, by myself. Codependency was a crutch for me and learning about all of this has educated me to make better choices, and sit and really challenge my thoughts. Mid way through the program I lost someone I loved to suicide. Thankfully I was in the program and they gave me the space I needed to process for a few days and jumped back in. The team even helped me file an extension with PFMLA and work to ensure when I have returned I am the best version of myself going back. Met many great people and they have a great caring staff. Not to mention DOWN TO EARTH.

The staff is absolutely amazing! I felt like I belonged immediately. It's a small group, but the best I've ever experienced. I'm going to be so sad when it comes to an end, as I will miss everyone, but confident I learned the proper tools I needed to be my best self.

Pioneer behavioral health and the people there have seriously saved my life and changed it for the better. I cannot imagine what I would do without that program today I’ve learned so much in such a short amount of time I couldn’t be more grateful for the knowledge in the community that I’ve gained truly such a wonderful place.
